Bajaj Hindusthan, the country's biggest sugar producer, on Wednesday announced its foray into coal-based power generation with an investment of Rs 1,600 crore. The company plans to set up five thermal units in Uttar Pradesh, with a combined capacity of 400 Mw. It currently has bagasse-based captive power generation of 430 Mw, of which 90 Mw is being sold to the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation.
